HCA delays start of Division 1 men's, women's hockey seasons

The Hockey Commissioners Association decided Thursday to delay the start of the Division 1 men's and women's ice hockey season, impacting the Wisconsin Badgers.

The release, as seen below, notes that the impact of COVID-19 is the reason for the delay to begin the season.

For women's hockey, the WCHA announced in its release that schedules and tournament dates are in the process of being finalized.

For men's hockey, the Big Ten made a similar declaration, deferring to the HCA's page for updates on the new start date to the season.

On Wednesday night's statewide Barry Alvarez Show, Alvarez said that the UW Athletics Department decided to pause training for men's hockey and football as cases spike, in record levels, in Dane County, particularly on the UW Campus. The Wisconsin State Journal reported that the men's hockey team had a spike in cases as well.

UW announced Wednesday that the school was quarantining two dorms and moving to virtual instruction for two weeks.
