The Rise of Home Runs Is Due To Embracing Analytics Not Juicing Baseballs

Justin Verlander on the MLB Ball

Justin Verlander said the following regarding the rise in home runs in baseball:

“It’s a f---ing joke. Major League Baseball’s turning this game into a joke. They own Rawlings, and you’ve got (MLB Commissioner Rob) Manfred up here saying it might be the way they center the pill. They own the f---ing company,” Verlander said. “We all know what happened. Manfred, the first time he came in, what’d he say? He said 'we want more offense.' All of a sudden he comes in, the balls are juiced? It’s not coincidence. We’re not idiots.”

Colin Cowherd makes the point to Verlander that he's living in the past and not embracing the fact that analytics have more to do with this spike in home runs than this conspiracy between the MLB and Rawlings.

Colin Cowherd: You're a stubborn man, and you're a pitcher, and I've seen this my entire life in sports. I'll believe there are UFOs...show me the alien. I'll believe balls are juiced...show me proof.

...Home runs have been going up mostly forever. Now they've gotten crazy over the last 7 or 8 years so why would that be? It's the same reason 3-point shooting's gone crazy...Stubborn men in sports don't like to evolve...
