Colin Cowherd's Top 10 Mold Breakers In Sports History

Colin Cowherd talks about how Kyler Murray has a chance to break the mold of the small quarterback inadequacies as he is prepped to enter the NFL at a typically undesirable height. This prompts him to put together a list of 10 people responsible for breaking the mold in sports history.

Colin Cowherd's Top 10 Mold Breakers In Sports History

10. Russell Wilson: Wilson took away "how tall is a quarterback." (Baker Mayfield, Johnny Manziel, to some degree Kyler Murray.) For a long time, you had to be a certain height and size. Wilson is currently 2nd all-time in passer rating to Aaron Rodgers. He's got the most wins ever for anybody in their first seven years playing.

9. Mariano Rivera: You couldn't put relief pitchers in the Hall of Fame. They were kind of second class citizens in baseball for years...and then Mariano, with one cut fastball, none of those Yankees World Series Championships happened without him. He was so respected for his elegance and dominance that he's the first player that got 100% of the votes to get into the Hall of Fame. He refined the position and redefined the position.

Mariano Rivera

8. LeBron James: The greatest athlete arguably in league history. He took away positions. He is a 6'9 swiss army knife. He also created player mobility. Shorter contracts and players movement will always be associated with LeBron.

7. Martina Navratilova: Women's tennis went from finesse to power. She's a predecessor to Steffi Graf, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams. We don't think of them as 'women's tennis players' we think of them as GREAT tennis players. She won 98% of her matches over a 5 year period.

6. Michael Vick: He created opportunities and dispelled the idea that the running quarterback can't work.

5. Billy Beane: He has everybody in baseball using Sabermetrics. When he came out, he got MAJOR pushback. He ended up turning the sport upside down and a lot of people today still don't want to give him credit. He was Mr. Moneyball and saw the world differently.

Billy Beane

4. Tiger Woods: Golfers became more muscular, leaner, and health-focused. Purses have gone up 352% since Tiger arrived which is absolutely unbelievable. Golf Courses had to be Tiger-Proofed.

Tiger Woods

3. Stephen Curry: He eliminated the center position. You can't be a back to the basket guy. A small frame 6'3 guy has dominated the league and was a unanimous NBA MVP in 2016 which has never happened in NBA history. He'll never be given credit but his ability to recruit Kevin Durant is really cool, in essence to say 'I'm going to get a player who's arguably better than me.'

Stephen Curry

2. Muhammad Ali: Not only did he develop rope-a-dope, but he was really the first athlete of massive stature who went into politics and pushed back at our government. He was boxing's first self-promoter.

Muhammad Ali

1. Jackie Robinson: Broke the color barrier in major league baseball.
