Murphy indicates Rodgers may be done in Green Bay

The long-running saga of Aaron Rodgers’ future with the Green Bay Packers appears to be coming to its most logical conclusion.

Speaking with WBAY-TV’s Adriana Torres, Murphy confirmed what many reports have said, that Rodgers has been actively seeking out a new team, widely reported to be the New York Jets. The Jets just hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to the same role; Hackett helped coach Rodgers to the last two of his four NFL MVP Awards.

“Very few players play for only one team, and you know obviously Brett had a great career here. Aaron had a great career here,” Murphy told Torres. “Regardless of what happens, Aaron will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

Rodgers has indicated that if he plays for another team in 2023, he will look back on his 18 seasons in Green Bay with “gratitude” and says he holds no ill will toward the team if they wanted to move on to Jordan Love.

That feeling appears to be reciprocal.

“It’s a situation where I think we wanted to help Aaron achieve what he wanted, as well as the Packers,” Murphy continued. “Hopefully it’ll create a situation where it’s a win for both sides.”
