Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy hired by the Dallas Cowboys

After a year off, a former Packers coach is on the move.

Former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy has been reportedly hired as the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

McCarthy will replace longtime Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, who was fired over the weekend. Garrett's contract was set to expire later this month, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones moved up the timeline in an apparent push to get McCarthy on board as head coach and to allow McCarthy to begin building his staff as quickly as possible.

McCarthy went 125-77-2 as coach of the Packers during the regular season and 10-8 during the playoffs, which includes a win in the Super Bowl in 2010.

Garrett had a record of 85-67 with Dallas, but went just 2-3 in the postseason.
