Frustration since Super Bowl season leads to Mike McCarthy's firing

After winning a Super Bowl earlier in his tenure in Green Bay, Mike McCarthy's Packers largely failed to live up to lofty expectations, never making it back to the championship game and ultimately sputtering this season to a 4-7-1 record before his ouster.

While the overall record and body of work is commendable, the sense among fans and now the front office is that the Packers should be contending for a championship, not all but mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a quarter of the regular season left to play. Having one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history almost assures being in the running in today's NFL, but Green Bay is far from contention the past two seasons.
