An in-race penalty on pit road dinged Matt Kenseth, finishing a lap back and in 23rd place in Thursday night's rain-delayed Alsco Uniforms 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Chase Elliott took the checkered flag after a pair of tough finishes in the handful of races since NASCAR resumed its schedule. Denny Hamlin finished second.
Weather was a factor on Thursday as well, with lightning in the vicinity. The race had been delayed from Wednesday night on account of inclement weather caused by Tropical Depression Bertha.
Next up, the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. start time.
