HSGB: A mid-season update on contenders, top players, and more

At the halfway point of the season in girls basketball, some clear trends, teams, and players have emerged in Wisconsin.

Norbert Durst of WisSports.net details some of the bigger stories statewide. Madison Memorial in Division 1 is proving to be a tough challenger to a potential state trip and a shot at reigning champ and #1 in the coaches poll Bay Port after dismantling Big 8 opponents. The Big 8 itself has challenging teams top to bottom, including #4 Middleton, who Memorial beat earlier this season.

Division 2 (Beaver Dam), Division 4 (Aquinas), and Division 5 (Black Hawk) have very clear favorites, but Division 3 is pretty wide open, making it one of the more interesting divisions in the sport. Particularly, Sectional 3, which has three of the top ten teams ranked in the state, and also includes Edgewood, a team that plays D1/D2 during the year and has taken down a pair of Big 8 foes.

Player rankings are updated this month, and Durst details the work in that process as well.
