Giannis Antetokounmpo to win second straight NBA MVP award

While the official NBA announcement won't come until 1 p.m., Giannis Antetokounmpo has won the 2019-20 NBA MVP Award for the second straight season.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the news Friday morning, shortly after it was revealed the official announcement would be made in the early afternoon.

The MVP voting criteria factored in only the regular season prior to the suspension of games due to COVID-19. At that point, the Milwaukee Bucks were the team with the NBA's best record.

Antetokounmpo averaged 29.5 points per game despite playing just 30.4 minutes per contest, while also averaging 13.6 rebounds per game. Antetokounmpo was named as one of two players that were unanimous first-team All-NBA selections earlier in the week. He also received the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award for this season.
