Williams Blows Save in 4-3 Loss to Miami

With the Phillies simultaneously blowing out the Nationals, the Brewers needed to win to keep pace with Philadelphia in the NL Wild Card Race. They were three outs from doing so on Saturday night, when Devin Williams came in to pitch in his second straight game. Williams blew his first save since August 20th by giving up two runs in the 9th inning on a two-run single by Bryan De La Cruz and the Brewers lost 4-3 to Miami.

The Brewers were down early after Peyton Burdick hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to give Miami a 2-0 lead. The Brewers struck back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Christian Yelich hit a solo home run. It was his first home run since September 6th and cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Brewers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases. Luis Urias was hit by a pitch to bring in the tying run and Victor Caratini hit into an RBI ground out to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead.

The lead held until the bottom of the ninth, when Williams blew the save. The Brewers were retired in order in the ninth inning and lost 4-3.

The Brewers are a full game behind the Phillies for the final NL Playoff Spot. They need a win in the series finale with Miami on Sunday afternoon at 1:10pm at American Family Field.
