Brewers trade Erik Kratz to Giants for C.J. Hinojosa

On Sunday, the Milwaukee Brewers traded veteran catcher Erik Kratz to San Francisco for minor league infielder C.J. Hinojosa.

Kratz was the third catcher on the Brewers' depth chart behind Yasmani Grandal, who the Brewers signed this offseason, and Manny Pina.

Brewers GM David Stearns told Tom Haudricourt that since several teams had inquired about Kratz, that he would not have passed through waivers.

Kratz set career highs in 2018 in plate appearances, hits, and games played.

Hinojosa has played parts of three seasons in Double-A, batting .259 in 951 plate appearances with a .321 OBP. He's played shortstop the most in his 347 games in the minors, with 276 games played at the position. He's also played second base (40 games) and third base (31 games). He'll report to Double-A Biloxi for the Brewers.
