Brewers sign pitcher Jake Petricka

Former Blue Jays and White Sox relief pitcher Jake Petricka signed with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday to a one-year contract, the team announced. Petricka agreed to terms earlier in the week.

Petricka, who will be 31 this season, was formerly the setup man for the Chicago White Sox before injuries robbed him of most of the 2016 and 2017 seasons. After a year in Toronto, where he had 41 strikeouts in 41 games and 45.2 innings pitched, Petricka was granted free agency in November.

His best season came in 2014, his first full season in the MLB. Petricka appeared in 67 games, threw 73 innings, and struck out 55 batters with a 2.96 ERA and 1.370 WHIP, all of those the best marks of his career.

Elbow surgery in 2016 temporarily shelved his progression, and 2018 was his first full season back in the big leagues.

Petricka's Milwaukee deal, per MLB Trade Rumors, is for one year, although Petricka will be arbitration eligible this offseason and has one minor league option remaining, meaning the Brewers will have team control for two seasons.
