Dan Jennings, Xavier Cedeño, Jonathan Schoop elect free agency

Friday was the deadline to offer arbitration-eligible players a contract in order to retain their rights, and a trio of Brewers will be free agents: left-handed pitchers Dan Jennings and Xavier Cedeño and second baseman Jonathan Schoop.

Jennings was acquired on waivers in March, and pitched in 72 games for the Brewers this year with a 3.22 ERA.

Cedeño was acquired from the Chicago White Sox at the end of August in a trade for outfielder Bryan Connell and pitcher Johan Dominguez. In 15 regular-season appearances with the Brewers, he had an ERA of 1.13.

Schoop, a 2017 AL All-Star, was acquired at the trade deadline from Baltimore in exchange for second baseman Jonathan Villar, pitcher Luis Ortiz, and shortstop Jean Carmona. Of the three non-tendered players in this group, Schoop was the highest-profile decision. He struggled after being acquired from Baltimore, batting just .202 in 46 games with the Brewers, which marked a steep drop-off from his All-Star season when he batted a career-high .293 only one year prior.
