Regan Smith, a 22-year-old swimmer from Lakeville, Minnesota, has emerged as one of the world's leading backstroke swimmers. Smith first made waves in the swimming world at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, where she set a new world record in the 200m backstroke, winning the gold medal at just 17 years old. She also broke the world record in the 100m backstroke during the 4x100m relay, which Team USA won in record time.

Smith, a Stanford University graduate, demonstrated her versatility at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by winning silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 100m backstroke. Despite losing her 100m backstroke world record to Australia's Kaylee McKeown in 2021, Smith reclaimed her position at the top in 2022 by winning the 100m back at the World Championships.

Smith qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after securing first and second places in the women's 200-meter backstroke and 200-meter butterfly finals, respectively, at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She continues to be a dominant force in U.S. swimming, with her sights set on more victories in the future.
