72% Of Sports Fans Won't Go To Stadiums Without Coronavirus Vaccine: Poll

A new poll found that sports fans might stay away from stadiums, even after restrictions on large gatherings are lifted. According to Seton Hall University's Stillman School of Business, 72% of sports fans said they would not feel comfortable going to a game until they have been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Twelve percent of the respondents said they would attend games only if social distancing guidelines could be maintained.

"This virus has the attention and respect of the nation," said Rick Gentile, director of the Seton Hall Sports Poll. "Those who identify as sports fans, at all levels of interest, line up closely with the general population in regard to their own safety and that of the players."

Sports leagues are trying to salvage their seasons and have considered a wide variety of options to resume playing games. The NBA has discussed playing the rest of their games in one arena without any fans, while Major League Baseball is looking into playing their season in Arizona at empty stadiums around the state.

Medical experts have suggested it may take at least a year for scientists to develop a safe and effective vaccine for the coronavirus.

The poll was conducted by telephone between April 6-8 with 762 respondents and has a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percent.
