The eight finalists for the WHCA Player of the Year were announced Monday. Two goaltenders, a defenseman, and five forwards are in this year's final group, narrowed down from 25 semifinalists.
The finalists are:
- Gavin Abric, G, Hayward
- Drake Baldwin, F, Madison West
- Cole Danielson, F, Hudson
- Garrett Larsen, G, Waukesha
- Robby Newton, F, University School
- Jake Osiecki, D, Verona
- Jack Rhode, F, Northland Pines
- Sam Stange, F, Eau Claire North
Players will be honored the day before the state hockey tournament begins at Alliant Energy Center, on February 27. Jack Gorniak, of West Salem/Bangor, won the award last year. Gorniak now skates for the Wisconsin Badgers.
