Sam, Joey Hauser sweep Big East men's basketball weekly awards

For the first time in BIG EAST history, two brothers have won the weekly men’s basketball honors in the same week.  Marquette’s Sam Hauser has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Joey Hauser has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  The duo helped the Golden Eagles to a pair of victories.

BIG EAST Player of the Week

Sam Hauser, Marquette, G-F, Jr. – Hauser averaged 28.0 points and 7.5 rebounds to lead Marquette to a 74-71 win at Georgetown and a 79-68 victory against Providence.  The junior registered a career-high 31 points at Georgetown and posted 25 points in the Providence win.  For the week, he shot 54.5 percent from the field, made 8-of-16 from 3-point range and was 12-of-12 from the foul line.  For the season, the elder Hauser is averaging 14.9 points and 6.9 rebounds.  He is second in the BIG EAST in free throw shooting, making 89.8 percent.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Joey Hauser, Marquette, F, Fr. – Hauser averaged 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the field.  He started the week with 10 points and six rebounds in the victory at Georgetown and finished with 11 points and four boards against Providence.  For the season, the freshman is averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and ranks fourth in the league in 3-point shooting, making 45.5 percent.
