Sophomore guard Greg Elliott of the Marquette University men’s basketball team will redshirt in 2018-19, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Tuesday evening.
Elliott injured his left thumb in practice in early October and hasn’t played in any games for the Golden Eagles this season. The Detroit, Michigan, native appeared in 35 games for MU as a freshman and averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
“We will always base our decisions with the player’s best interests in mind and that was the primary factor in the discussion for Greg to redshirt,” Wojciechowski said. “Greg, his family and our staff were all in agreement that focusing on getting healthy this year was the best thing for him as a player and we can’t wait to have him back on the court in 2019-20.
“He has been a tremendous positive influence in practices and on the bench during games and he will continue to be a key member of this team,” Wojciechowski added.
