Five in a row! That's what the Badger Men basketball team is capable of, and I'll tell you what else they are capable of...running the table come March Madness!
The Badgers put together a solid win Saturday (2-22-14) in Iowa City against the Hawkeyes. Frank Kaminsky who has taken charge as of late, dropped in 25 as the Badgers downed the Hawkeyes 79-74. The win not only took care of the season sweep over the Hawkeyes, but it also showed me a few other things that support my feelings of a possible National Championship ending up in Madison (at the very least a Final Four).
The Badgers played tough defense on Saturday, allowing Iowa basically one shot per trip down the court, a lot of times easier said than done. They also kept the game at a "Badger" manageable score...low. Third the Badgers have once again proved that they can win on the road in a hostile environment. Which in the NCAA tournament is essential since none of the games will be played inside the friendly confines of the Kohl Center in Madison.
Take a look at the big games that Bo and his team have won on the road this season: UWGB (last Years Horizon League Champions), which is always tough against a fiesty in state rival. St. Louis University who is right now 25 and 2 (Bilikins only 2 losses were against UNDEFEATED Witicha State and the Badgers). They also beat top 20 ranked Michigan and Iowa... and the big one, Virginia at Virginia, which in my eyes was HUGE!
If the Badgers can "win out" there is a good chance they'll get a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and play rounds 2 and 3 here in Milwaukee at the BMO Harris Bradley Center...that would just about guarantee a "Sweet 16" campaign... and if that happens, watch out because by the time it is all said and done, UW fans could once again be partying like it's 1941! (Wisconsin defeated Washington State 39-34 to win the National Title).
Here's a clip of Wisconsins only NCAA Championship. Wisconsin is in the dark jerseys, WSU is in the light, and since it's honoring WSU it's "pro" Cougars...but it's still pretty cool, enjoy!
